Tomato Joe’s: Valencia, CA

I have to admit…after eating PIzza in Napoli, Italy this summer, it’s pretty difficult to find a pizza that comes close to the masterpiece Italy has created. I recently ventured about 30 minutes from Hollywood to meet a friend for lunch in Valencia. Being vegan I always “google” for places with vegan choices before I head out! My friend isn’t vegan but is gluten free and wanted some pizza…SO there it was… Must find a *Vegan* *Gluten Free* *Pizza Place* that is actually tasty…in…..Valencia... mission impossible?

Sure, If it had been MISSION: Vegan Pizza in Hollywood- easy cheesy..but Valencia? As difficult as I thought it would be to find such a specific place- after just a few minutes of searching Tomato Joe’s popped up!

Image

Now, Tomato Joe’s isn’t 100% vegan but it offers something for everyone! Whole Wheat, Gluten Free, Vegan, Beer Batter Crust, Traditional, Thin, New York style….and that is just the crust! They have every topping from Vegan Italian Sausage, Vegan Pepperoni, Vegan Chicken, Vegan Chorizo, Veggies, Vegan Mozzarella! They also have numerous vegan sauces for your pizza to choose from! Tomato Joe’s also offers fresh organic salads to go with your delicious pizza!

My friend and I decided on a 14″ Pizza (Chipotle Pesto Sauce, Vegan Chorizo, Pineapple, and Onion) $11.89 … AMAZING- they make it fresh while you wait, so it takes a few minutes but it comes out hot and delicious. The Chipotle Pesto Sauce contains: Smoked Mild Jalapenos & Pesto. The Vegan Chorizo was crisp and tasty paired perfectly with the fresh Pineapple and Onion.. I really can’t describe how good this pizza was! I was pleasantly surprised!

Tomato Joe’s is a must if you’re ever in the Valencia area- and if you aren’t make a trip out! Whether you stay in for a pizza or have one delivered (within a 3 mile radius)..you won’t be sorry!

Chef Brooke’s ! Amazing new dishes!

Have to apologize because it has been a while since I last blogged! I’ve been traveling in Europe for the past couple of months and have had limited computer access.. the good news is I have a ton of restaurants to blog about ;)

I thought I would start off today with my favorite place.. the best place to go after being out of the country for a bit.. Chef Brooke’s Natural Cafe in Fort Myers, Fl. I admit, living in LA I don’t get to eat at Chef Brooke’s as much as I’d like ( as in everyday) so it’s a treat when I am in town to go! It seems that everytime I go to Chef Brooke’s she has invented a new amazing dish for me to eat! The creativity is endless. :)Image
Chef Brooke alway’s has an amazing specials board along with menu items such as: sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, desserts and even a kids menu! Chef Brooke creates dishes from every culture! I can NEVER pick between the incredible specials she has so she just makes me a plate of what she thinks i’ll like ( and she has never been wrong!) the “Specials Plate“(pic above) ($11.99) Tempeh Salad Cup, BBQ Tofu Melt, Fresh Salad, Beans & Rice, and Falafel. Yep- all of that on one plate= bliss..This plate was spectacular.. I mean everything about it tasted delicious.. The plate is like a piece of art work to be honest..almost to good to eat…*almost* – Fresh, homeade and creative..the best kind of food you can eat.

Image

The next plate up is the “Stuffed Pepper Plate“(pic above) ($11.99) Fresh Yellow Pepper stuffed with a mix of Brooke’s creations. I don’t know everything she put in the pepper but I can tell you it was euphoric. Full of amazing is what it was. Brooke never runs out of new dishes to create! Of course you cannot leave Chef Brooke’s without having a baked good.. I have dreams about her bakery… Faeriecakes, muffins, dream bars, brownies, cookies, and so much more! How does one choose?!

                                              Image
Brooke made one of my favorite’s “Chocolate Pineapple Faeriecake($2.99) Fresh Pineapple Muffin with Chocolate Chips topped with a vegan Frosting. .. This cake is hard to describe because it is as close to Heaven as you can get on earth. I could live the rest of my life just on these ;) Be sure to stop in for one of the jewels!
Chef Brooke’s Natural Cafe is warm and inviting- the second you walk in the door the intense smell of delicious food hits your nose! Great music, great atmoshphere! Chef Brooke goes above and beyond to make sure everyone leaves happy and full! It’s a great place for lunch or even just for a coffee and baked good! Be sure to check it out!

Le Pain Quotidien…London Style..

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

and in my opinion everything is better in London;) Of course I’ve been to Le Pain Quotidien in the good ol’ USA, but for whatever reason the one in London seemed so much better.. perhaps it’s just that I adore London:p But really the vegan muffin here and fruit were so much better and fresher! While on my holiday I started most mornings at Le Pain Quotidien. This particular review is from the one in the SOHO area of London. To start off I’d get a “Soy Latte(E 2.50) Fresh Soymilk steamed and mixed with Expresso. There is just something about having a coffee in Europe that makes it taste THAT much better.. and trust me I was a 2 latte a day offender;) Something so lovely about sitting at a little cafe on the streets sipping a latte…<3- For my meal I decided to get the “Granola Bowl” (E3.95) Fresh Homemade Granola with seeds and nuts served with steamed soymilk. Some of the best granola I’ve had!! Crunchy, healthy and delish! Along side I ordered the “Lg. Fruit Salad Bowl” (E4.50)Fresh Mixed Fruit- Mango, Grapes, Apple, Mixed Melon, and Berries. The best thing about this place is the “Vegan Blueberry Muffin (E2.20) Fresh Vegan Batter filled with fresh Blueberries. These muffins are SO amazing! Seriously taste better than any of the ones at their cafes in the US ( sry america;)). IF you go to London you have to get one of these! MHM.. This is such a great cafe in London with tons of breakfast food, and such fresh breads and pastries! Make it a point to stop in if you ever find yourself in good ol’ London town;)

Vegan in Vegas?? heck yes!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

A few weeks ago I made my first trip to Las Vegas! I feel like Vegas is a place that everyone will have to go at least once in their life time.. So I did! I met up with my parents there for a couple of days of fun and R&R. I already knew before going that Pure Vida Bakery & Bystro was the vegan place to be while in Vegas:) Pure Vida is Las Vegas’ first and only 100% Vegan joint…and they have crazy good food! First off it’s a cute small place just a bit off the “Strip” and from the second we walked in we were taken care of and treated the best! Such a sweet and caring staff! They have a HUGE case of baked goods, a special board, lunch entrees, breakfast dishes, and drinks! It was a brunch day so we decided to do brunch foods:) The baked goods looked SO yummy that we decided to start with a “Banana Chocolate Muffin” ($4.95) Fresh Banana Batter with Chocolate Chips baked inside. This muffin

was HUGE! Full of fresh banana and gooey chocolate- it was SO good! We then decided to do a little spit type deal. The first dish was “The Wow ($10.99) A huge plate of “Cheese” quesadilla pieces, Seitan Sausage, Tofu Scramble, and Seasoned Potatoes. So much amazing food! Everything was delish! Hot, fresh, flavorful!! We also got “The Sampler” ($12.99) A sample of breakfast dishes including: Tofu Scramble, Potatoes, Bean Dip, Quesadillas. It also includes Waffles and Pancakes. I LOVED every single thing about this dish- how great to have a menu item that gives you a piece of it all! Filling and healthy nothing sinful about this good for you food!- favorite!! Pure Vida is one of the best places I’ve eaten, I am totally heading back to Vegas just for Pure Vida! If you ever hit Sin City be sure to give Pure Vida a try- you won’t be sorry! Eat Clean even in the city of sin! :)

I’ve died and gone to FROYO Heaven!

Milky's!

I don’t know about you guys but I am a HUGE fan of FROYO ( vegan of course). There is something about the texture and creaminess that just tickles my fancy;) I can remember last winter in the city (NYC that is- my part time home) when I would walk around the city with a cup of vegan frozen yogurt in about oh -5 degrees. My love is that deep. Being this lover of froyo- I was ALL over a new vegan place that opened up in Hollywood not to long ago. “Milky’s”  is a self serve Frozen Yogurt shop that offers 4 VEGAN flavorseach week, along with a lovely topping bar!  I was totally ecstatic to check this place out today! My parents and I had a lovely vegan lunch and decided to head on over!

Heaven!

It’s a quaint and cozy little FROYO place with a few tables/chairs to sit and- and that lovely soft serve… The vegan flavors today were “Chocolate”, “Vanilla”, “Strawberry”, and “Pumpkin” (which was not quite ready yet). It is $.49/c per ounce (a nice sized cup was about $4.50) . This stuff is incredible! The creaminess, the deep rich flavor, OH SO DELISH! My parents were also quite impressed with the tasty flavors! Let me just say, Milky’s you are amazing- NEVER leave! The topping bar is also full of goodies! Carob Chips, Granola, Fresh Fruit.. I could go on but honestly you should just get yourself to Milky’s for a cup of Heaven!  Eat Clean and creamy!!

Peace, Love, and Vegan FROYO,

Kris

Chef Brooke’s… If you could have Heaven on earth..it would be here!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I always love when I get to spend some time with one of my favorite people Chef Brooke! Along with getting to eat my *favorite* food Chef Brooke’s Natural Cafe.  A perfect day for me would consist of a relaxing lunch at Brooke’s- that’s why every time I get time to go back to Ft. Myers for a break – I spend everyday there for lunch- not only for the spectacular food but for the lovely company as well! The cafe is quaint, peaceful, and just an all around wonderful environment. Each time I go away and come back it seems that the menu gets better, and better. More creative and delicious then the time before ( which is always a surprise because it was already the best food ever made!) With a diverse menu of organic, healthy homemade salads, soups, wraps, sandwiches, daily specials, pizzas, mexican dishes, and some incredible desserts where else would I ever choose to eat??! Just the thought of Chef Brooke’s puts a smile on my face and a bit of hunger in my belly! My parents had lunch their the other day and sent me a lovely picture- SO jealous! Now onto some goodies at Chef Brooke’s! Every dining experience here is great and Chef Brooke’s ALWAYS adds a little somethin somethin to make it even better. She brought my mom and I a bowl of her “Veggie Chili” ($5.99/bowl) Piping hot Chili with Fresh Vegetables, Squash, Tofu, and flavorful ingredients. I cannot tell you every ingredient that is used in this because their are SO many yummy things going on, it just works, thats what I can say. Generally Veggie Chili is crumbled soy and veggies..which is good but like I said Chef Brooke always adds a little something to make it that much better! This is now my new favorite chili, hands down!!! Next up is something I didn’t have as my menu item ( but I have eaten this at Chef Brooke’s before)  but just had to snap a picture of a review! “Tempeh Pizza” ($11.99) This thick Crusted Pizza, with Fresh Tomato Sauce,Fresh Vegetables, Crumbled Tempeh, and Spices will normally be served with a lovely Green Side Salad. Fabulous taste! I dare you to bring your non vegan friend here to eat this, and say they don’t like it!! Crispy, homemade and amazing!! Another one of the best dishes ( something my momma loves!) is the “Tempeh Reuben ($8.99) Fresh Strips of Tempeh, Vegetables, Reuben Sauce, served with Potato Salad, and Cole Slaw. This sandwich is just heavenly! I don’t even know where to begin!! I will say though- the sauce on this sandwich is the *BEST* sauce I have ever eaten- I order it with *EVERY* dish I get at Brooke’s! The tempeh is seasoned to perfection, and every vegetable Brooke uses always tastes like it was just taken from a fresh garden! YUMM! My normal at Brooke’s is one of her MANY daily specials plates – She makes it kind of “special” for me and puts a bit of everything on there! “Special me plate” ($11.99) Fresh Tamari Tofu, Baked Falafel, Tempeh, served with a side of Beans, a Side Salad, Rice, and Baked Veggies. Where do I begin?!! EVERYTHING on this plate is my favorite- I LOVE that she always makes it with a bit of everything for me to taste- because honestly I can NEVER decide ( but can you blame me???) I would def. recommend getting one of her delicious, creative specials when you go in!! Im going to have to say that the baked goods at Chef Brooke’s will not only entice your eyes but leave your stomach happy forever! Chef Brooke makes delicious Vegan Cookies, Muffins, Faerie Cakes, Gluten Free Muffins, Dream Bars, Vegan Cakes and Crazy Specials like Strawberry Pudding. The Cookies/Muffins/Faerie Cakes/and Dream Bars are around $2.99 each.  ( I put them along in the slide) The “Vegan Dream Bar” Layers of Fresh Vegan Batter, Chocolate, Coconut, and other secret goodies baked to the most amazing bar I’ve ever eaten. This thing will blow your mind- it is THAT good. seriously. wow.  Next up is the “Chocolate Pineapple Muffin” Fresh Batter, with chunks of Pineapple and Chocolate Chips. This muffin is like a pineapple chocolatey pie that just melts in your mouth- leaves you wanting 10 more! MHM. Chef Brooke is also very popular for her “Faeriecakes Fruit Flavored Batter with a Creamy Vegan Icing with fresh Nuts, and Pomegranate Seeds. My mom is in love with these faeriecakes, and for good reason- everything about them is perfection- maybe she will start to sell the icing in a bucket for me;)?? One day she made “Strawberry PuddingMade with Tofu, and fresh Strawberries. I have to admit, Im not a huge fruit pudding person- but this stuff was really, really yummy! Cool and fruity, perfect for a hot day! ( you would never guess it was made with tofu). As I mention Chef Brooke also caters to you Gluten Free folks out there ( although I LOVE the GF food) “Banana Chocolate GF Muffin” ( Fresh Banana made with GF Batter topped with a warm Chocolate Sauce, served with Acai Berries, and Cacao. WOWZERS! The muffin is killer on its own- but putting that chocolate sauce and THEN adding Acai Berries AND Cacao Chips- my word, can it get any better?! Not any better than Chef Brooke’s!! I know that was a lot of reviewing but my blog seemed to delete posts of this food before and it simple has to be known how out of this planet killer Chef Brooke’s and Brooke herself is. You simple HAVE to head there for some grub! Eat Clean!

The Jones Eastside: Gainesville!

The Jones Eastside

This summer I was fortunate enough to spend the majority of my time in New Orleans with my family. We ended up driving to Florida towards the end of my stay so I was all over finding some vegan and good on the road trip! The Jones Eastside is a small quaint restaurant in Gainesville serving up regular breakfast items, lunch, dinner, different beverages, but also a lot of vegan choices! One thing that got my attention was the grits! I LOVE LOVE LOVE grits,

:)

honestly I would be satisfied with a nice giant tub of fresh homemade grits :p. Unfortunately “tub of grits” wasn’t a menu option so I decided to try something else;) The “Tempeh Scramble” ($8.95) Wonderfully seasoned Marinated Tempeh Sauteed with Fresh Veggies and drizzled with Toasted Sesame Oil. Served with Grits, Toast, and a side of Fresh Fruit.. What I adore about this dish is that its a tempeh scramble, awesome right? It’s normally a tofu

Tempeh Scramble!

scramble (which they do have) but the tempeh was so great mixed with the fresh vegetables- nothin better!! I don’t even have to tell you how amazing the grits were do I? Fresh, hot, soft fabulous grits! YUM YUM.! This place also had some great vegan desserts but I wasn’t that hungry so I will have to try it next time were driving through Gainesville!:) Great meal, great time with the family ! <3 Eat Clean!

Pasta for Breakfast? why not!

Pasta !

I think people have the connotation that ‘vegans’ aren’t very adventurous when it comes to our food choices. In my opinion it’s quite the contrary. With so many fresh food options, and different “vegan versions” of food we have plenty of crazy dishes to try and Im honestly never bored with my food:) I always love when I give something vegan to a ‘non vegan’ and they adore it, just proves my above point:). Hugo’sis one of the *best* places in Hollywood to grab breakfast served most of the day, a great lunch or something a little different that

MHM

surprises the palate. When my mom is in LA, we go to Hugo’s at least twice a week. This particular morning we both decided to try a little something different for breakfast. My mom went for the “Pasta Emilia”($12.50) Fresh Pasta scrambled with Tofu, Garlic, Parsley, Avocado, Tomato, Cilantro, and Hugo’s  Special Seasoning. Seriously, how creative are they?! Im not really an ‘in the box’ person when it comes to what I will eat (vegan wise mind you) for breakfast. I meanif breakfast for dinner why not dinner for

Stir Fry!

breakfast? This dish was really good- I really enjoyed it, my mom is more of a “pancakes or oatmeal for breakfast type” so while she thought the dish was yummy she would have probably enjoyed it better for lunch. I however thought it was great! Totally something if your willing to step out of the box for breakfast:) I decided to try one of their main Entree dishes “Asian Stir Fry($14.00) Marinated Organic Tofu, Snow Peas, Fresh Tomatoes, Broccolini, Mushrooms, Jicama, Green Onions, Cilantro, and  a Mild Sesame-Chili Sauce Served over Quinoa. The thing I love about Hugo’s is that they are so detailed with each ingredient. You can taste every flavor they incorporate in the dish and it just brings it to that perfect food level. The stir fry was full of flavors and fresh veggies cushioned with fluffy quinoa. What a fabulous out of box breakfast experience at Hugo’s.  You know i’ll be back;) . Eat Clean and out of the box!

I discovered this place on a whim of google searching one day. I was almost sure I had found every place in New Orleans that offered some vegan food when O! Vegasm popped up. This is a 100% Vegan Brunch a couple of cool cat vegans have just recently started up . One of the Chefs, John Morales also bakes up some delicious vegan baked goods and distributes them to a few cafes in the area as well ( way to spread the vegan love!)I have got to start by saying that these chefs are some of the most creative and daring in the vegan cooking biz .. i mean 100% Vegan brunch in NOLA.. hardcore for sure! They currently are hosting their brunch at Grits Bar (edgy) and switch up the brunch items every week (SUNDAYS), with some of the craziest dishes ever ..Things like; Pineapple Upsidedown Pancakes with Sweet Cashew Cream, Fried Green Tomatoes, Homemade English Muffins with Cream Cheese, Tuscan Scramble, O! Lasagna!, Strawberry Pancakes with Orange Blossom Basil Syrup, and SO MUCH MORE! (Check the FB Link below for a weekly menu!) The sample plate we got included “Homemade English Muffins with a Cream Cheese Spread”, “Polenta Cake”, “Tofu Sausage Patties”,” Tofu/Seitan Scramble”, and “Fried Green Tomatoes“.. *New* location at the Farmers Market:)

Nachos!

WELL new as of about May, but I just got myself over there to check it out! Im a frequent diner at The Veggie Grill on Sunset and they have numerous other locations in Ca. I am always at the Farmers Market so this location is perfect for me!! They have a fabulous menu full of lovely salads, delicious kale dishes, wraps, sandwiches, a cute kids menu, fabulous appetizers, and dessert! They even host “Veggie Virgin Night” occasionally which is where they “de virginize” people for free! My mom and I went in one afternoon for lunch and

Buffalo Wings!

tried a few new things so here goes! To try a couple of new things we got 2 appetizers. The “Uptown Nachos” ($4.95) Tortilla Chips, Chili, VG- Cheese, Corn Salsa, Avocado, Soy Cream, and Jalapenos. Spectacular, oozing with soy cream and fresh avocado and the chili you cant touch. so so good! We also split the “Buffalo Wings($6.25) Fresh VG Chikin with a Spicey Buffalo Sauce, served with Celery Sticks and Ranch!! LOVE! This is one of my favorite appetizers at VG. I normally get the ‘Chill out Wings’ which are similar without the spice, but these

All American Stack

things were some kind of wonderful’:):) They have an extensive sandwich menu at VG but my mom decided on one of their popular sandwiches the “All-American Stack” ($8.95) Grilled Veggie-Steak, Thousand Island Dressing, Pickles, Lettuce, Tomato, topped with Crispy Onion Rings served with Chili. The description is overwhelmingly lovely and the taste is even better! This sandwich has the perfect amount of veggie, ‘meat’, and crunch! The chili we had eaten before and it is some of the best in town!:) I decided to get me one of their

All Hail Kale Salad!

tasty salads the ” All Hail Kale with Blackened ‘Chikin’($7.95 + $2.50) Marinated Kale & Red Cabbage, Roasted Corn Salsa, Agave-Roasted Walnuts ( I opted out) with a Ginger-Papaya Vinaigrette with Blackened ‘Chikin’. Most of the time I get kale, it is a little bland..good but bland; but honestly you could not tell that this was kale – it was the best kale salad I’ve ever eaten. Seriously, fresh, flavorful, healthy, with lovely fruity flavors and a nice blackened chikin. MHM  Something I will definitely be ordering again!! LOVE me some Veggie Grill and you should to, so check out the new Farmers Market Location!! Eat Green and Clean!
