Cafe Blossom: Brunch

"Country Breakfast" ($12) Tempeh Bacon ($3)

So I went back to one of my favorite cafes here on the UWS for brunch: Cafe Blossom offers delicious lunch sandwiches, and salads, upscale dinner entrees, smoothies, desserts, and what I went for today brunch🙂 They have a great brunch menu that offers Chocolate Chip or Blueberry Pancakes, French Toast, Crepes, Quinoa and Peach Porridge and what I got “The Country Breakfast”($12 + Tempeh Bacon $3) Tofu Scramble, Sweet Potato Hash Browns, Mixed Greens, and Sauteed Mushrooms ( I replaced those with Onions) and Tempeh Bacon additionally with Multi Grain Toast and Apple Chutney. This was one of the greatest brunch meals I’ve had in the city! The Sweet Potato Hash Browns were so flavorful and crisp! Great Apple Chutney as well sweet with a little bit of tanginess to it! Along with the soft tofu scramble and peppers with bacon. YUM! What a delicious brunch! I always love going to Cafe Blossom.. It’s a place you should stop by if your in nyc.. They are sister restaurants to Blossom Chelsea, Cocoa V ( vegan Chocolate Bistro) and the newly opened V-Note is connected as well in the UES. Eat healthy and enjoy!

Anywho I decided to have a quick bite to eat while in the city so here goes! Being in Philly and all I had to somehow incorporate the whole ” Cheese Steak” into my experience.. This Salad was

JivamukTea Cafe

Yogi's Choice ($9.00)

Today for lunch I decided to head back to Union Square to my new obsession JikamukTea Cafe. I went for one of the amazing salads ( which I posted about here) but they were waiting for the lettuce delivery so no salad for me

Ginger Cookie ($3.00)

today:( I suppose that’s ok because it forced me to try something new. Other wise I don’t think I would have been pulled away from those salads of deliciousness;) So here goes they offer a Yogis Special that is a combination of 3 different dishes with a dressing.. ( some choices include: Seaweed, Rosemary Seitan, Kasha,Quinoa, Coleslaw, Sprouts, Seitan, Bean of the day, Grilled Tempeh, Kale, Millet, and Steamed Veggies) .. It looked good so I ordered the “Yogis Choice ($9.00) Grilled Seitan/Spicy Tempeh, Quinoa, and Coleslaw Served with a Mustard Vinaigrette. I loved this! Huge portion sizes fresh and healthy food! The proteins ( seitan/tempeh) were perfectly seasoned and delicious! The coleslaw was flavorful but not to saucy which is great, and fluffy quinoa to accompany them! The mustard vinaigrette is also one of the best dressings on the planet! Deliciousness in a bowl! In the spirit of trying new things I decided to order a “Ginger Molasses Cookie” ($3.00) Fresh Ginger baked together with a Molasses filled cookie. This was a yummy cookie! Very moist with just a hint of Ginger, mostly a sweet molasses flavor.. Very good with there coconut green tea! I really can’t say enough good things about this cafe.. It really has become one of my favorite places.. You leave feeling healthy and refreshed! 5 stars from me! Keep it up JivamukTea:) Eat healthy!!

Carrot Ginger Soup

So today after church I decided to go asian and try a little place a few blocks away. Ozu offers vegan food ( as well as some fish) made naturally and prepared without dairy products or refined sugars. They have a wide variety of wholesome dishes, sushis, and desserts. Each day until 4 p.m. they offer a lunch box special for $13.50 which includes an entree, two appetizers, brown rice, and soup! I decided to order that and to start for my soup I got “Carrot Ginger” Pureed Carrots mixed

Almost Perfect ( with Appetizers)

with fresh Ginger and put together as a soup. For my appetizers I got “Edamame” Your basic Soybean in a pod, which Im a big fan of as well as “ Summer Rolls”Basil, Tofu, Thin Rice Noodles, and Cucumbers, wrapped in Rice paper. Served with a Peanut Sauce. This was probably the best thing I ate at Ozu, very thick rolls oozing with fresh veggies and tofu! “Almost Perfect” Hijiki, Kale, Collards, and Tofu Stir Fried in Carrot Garlic Sauce served with Brown

Seitan ($6)

Rice. This was a pretty good dish. Not a giant burst of flavors going on but all in all very healthy and good. I also got an order of the “Broiled Seitan with Burdock Sauce” ($6.00) Broiled Strips of Seitan in a Burdock Sauce filled with Bean Sprouts and Carrots. I really liked this Seitan, it had a crunchy outside which I really enjoyed.. The Burdock Sauce comes out like a bowl of soup but it was delicious! They give fantastic portions here! Ozu is a restaurant for the seasoned healthy eater.. I don’t think new vegans or people who don’t appreciate different tastes will enjoy Ozu… But thats just my 2 cents take it or leave it:) Eat Clean and Healthy:)

Who needs sugar?

Stevia in the Raw

So I consider myself to be a VERY strict vegan… I suppose on a vegan diet your allowed to eat sugar ( as long as it is vegan)..candies, sugary drinks, vegan treats with sugar, etc. but I made the decision to keep a diet of wholesome, sugar free, healthy organic vegan food.. no sugar, no white flour.nothing unhealthy…Sometimes that can be difficult but a product that is becoming popular fast, has made this lifestyle a bit easier. “Stevia” .. Stevia has many different brands, and varieties ( granulated form, powder).. So I thought I would tell you about 2 of my favorite types.. First of let me start by saying that a big selling point of Stevia is that it is calorie free.. you heard me calorie free. Great for people on diets or who like that sweet taste without the guilt of calories or carbs.. The first brand I’ll tell you about it “Stevia in the Raw” you can normally purchase this at Wholefoods or even

your local grocery store. . Stevia in the Raw I would recommend using for Iced or cold drinks.. I find that it absorbs best in those items… The next type is NuStevia this product I don’t think you will find at a local grocery store.. You’ll most likely have to hit a Health food store to find it! I really like this one in Hot drinks or if you buy the powder form for baking. .. Well that’s all my two cents. I recommend you at least try Stevia once… You may never go back to sugar again:)

Bliss Cafe: Brooklyn

So I made the short trek down to Brooklyn this a.m. for a little brunch at Bliss Cafe on Bedford Ave. steps away form the train ( which is perfect) . They normally open at 10 a.m. for brunch but when I arrived at 10:15 there was a sign that stated they wouldn’t open until 10:45.. bummer. I decided to wait it out and the server who was there apologized which was nice.. Still though on a chilly day like today I would have like to be able to get in when they were suppose to be open.. let’s get

Burrito ($7.5)

to the food.. Bliss offers breakfast items like Tofu Scrambles, French Toast, and Bagels… As well as Lunch dishes like sandwiches, burritos, different entree bowls.. They also have a variety of salads, fresh juices, and vegan wheat free and sugar free desserts! Today I ordered the ” Vegan Breakfast Burrito” ($7.50) Tofu Scramble with Soy Cheese, Spinach, and Potatoes wrapped in Whole Wheat Tortilla. Served with Vegan Sour Cream, Pico De Gallo, and Chili Beans. WOW so much

Bacon ($3)

inside I didn’t realize. ha This was a pretty good burrito, soft and cheesy with fresh spinach served fresh from the kitchen! Flavorful but not overpowering. I ordered a side of “Tempeh Bacon” ($3.00) Thick strips of Tempeh grilled up for breakfast! This was great Tempeh, not like the normal thin pieces I get , very thick and flavorful! . I also ordered a muffin of the day which was the ” Strawberry Pecan Muffin” ($2.00) Fresh Strawberries mixed with crunchy Pecans baked

Muffin ($2.5)

to bring to the table. The muffins were just coming out of the oven when I ordered so they were steaming hot and delicious. Not extremely flavorful but a nice healthy muffin for the morning:) I also got a little dessert to go “The Blondie” ($2.25) Chocolate Chips, Slivered Almonds baked in a perfect square. I really enjoyed this! I have yet to find a vegan sugar free blondie so I was excited that they had them! Chewy and gooey just the way a blondie should be:) Overall the food was

Blondie ($2.25)

pretty good.. I was most excited about the blondie and the muffin was pretty good.. I wasn’t all that impressed that they opened so late…but the service is fast and fresh. Eat Clean and healthy!
