Homemade: Kelp Salad. MHM

Kelp Noodles & Smart Strips

So I love to eat out ( which you can see by my blog) but on occasion I like to whip up something simple and delicious in the kitchen! Today I decided to make a “Kelp Salad” Fresh Kelp Noodles, with ‘Steak Strips, Mixed Vegetables, and a Tamari and Pepper Flavoring. This dish is so simple and low calorie.. Kelp Noodles($4.99 per pack) are healthy and essentially 18 calories

for a huge pack ( they come already prepared raw so you dont have to cook them) Then you add  a pack of  “Smart Strips Steak”(3.99 per pack) : *You can find both items at Wholefoods or most other health food stores*. Then a mixed bag of “Vegetables” Fresh broccoli, Zucchini, Carrots, Spinach Leaves, and mixed Peppers. This dish totals about 400 calories, and like 1 gram of healthy

Golden Mean: Fantastic Santa Monica Grub!

Golden Mean

One of my favorite places in California is Santa Monica, so Im always super excited for a new vegan find in the area! Golden Mean is a quaint little vegan cafe situated on Wilshire Blvd. They have a great menu with salads, appetizers, sandwiches, entrees, pizzas, wraps, and some crazy amazing desserts! I decided to start my meal with an appetizer; the “Hummus of the Day” ($5.50) Fresh Homemade Hummus served with Fresh Vegetables. The hummus was so yummy, and I

Hummus of the Day

loved the fresh veggies for dipping- very refreshing! To go along with my veggies I got the “When in Rome Salad with Veggie Chicken” ($10.50 + $2.00) Romaine Hearts, Red & Yellow Cherry Tomatoes, Pumpkin Seeds, Sweet Potato Cornbread Croutons, Creamy Hemp Caesar Dressing with pieces of ‘Veggie Chicken’. This salad had so much stuff going on and it was fantastic! It was like a different take on a traditional “caesar salad” BUT so much better!! The dessert case is crazy so it’s

When in Rome Salad

hard to choose but somehow I did! I got a “Chocolate Mint Cookie” ($2.75) Vegan Batter filled with Chocolate Chips and a fresh Mint Flavor. I’ve never had a mint chocolate chip cookie before but this was so delicious! Im a big fan of mint desserts and this was a killer cookie!! I also got the “Vanilla Cheesecake“($5.95) Fresh Vanilla Cheesecake, Drizzled with Chocolate & Coconut with a Crispy Crust underneath. Im not a big ‘cheesecake’ type person but this definitely changed my mind. It

Chocolate Mint Cookie

was creamy and crunchy and flavorful!! If you go to Santa Monica you should totally hit up Golden Mean! SO YUMMY! Keep it healthy all the  time!

Yummy Cupcakes: an understatement!

Yummy Cupcakes!

So Yummy Cupcakes is a cute little cupcake shop right near the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. They also have a couple of other locations in CA. They are not a “vegan cupcake bakery” but they have a couple of different vegan choices each day and will make special orders on request! Today while I was wondering around SM I stumbled in to Yummy Cupcakes. I was so excited when I saw they had 2 vegan choices today: Snickerdoodle, and Chocolate/Vanilla. I was super excited about the Snickerdoodle one so for my cupcake today I

Snickerdoodle Cupcake

got the “Snickerdoodle Cupcake” ($3.25) Fresh Vanilla based Batter Snickerdoodle flavor, fresh Cinnamon with a Creamy Frosting. YUMMY CUPCAKE! Really, this thing was so delicious!! Hard to believe that it was vegan, so flavorful and moist! An absolute favorite. I also love how ‘cute’ this little cupcake shops was, they have so many different flavored fresh baked cupcakes! So make this a *must* cupcake on your list of vegan cupcakes to eat! {and if you don’t have a list you should;)}. Eat HealthY!

Sante La Brea: “Let them eat cake”!

Carrot Cake {Gluten Free}

So I was so impressed with Sante La Brea last time I visited, that I decided to head back over for lunch today. I loved what I got on my first visit that I ordered the *exact* same thing as last time.. I know

way to broaden my horizons right?! ha.. but I mean if something is that tasty it’s worth getting a second time:) The only thing I did different today was dessert. I had a killer dessert last time I was there the Chocolate Cake, but today I decided to try a new Gluten Free Cake. The “Gluten Free Carrot Cake” ($7.00) Brown Rice Flour, Carrot, Pineapple, Alcohol-Free Vanillla, and Fresh Spices. Dear Sante La Brea, does every piece of cake i eat at your restaurant have to be SO AMAZING??! I think yes! This was like the best carrot cake I’ve ever eaten. It’s also Gluten Free and it was so moist { a lot of times gluten free items are really dry}. The frosting on this was just lovely. So flavorful and amazing! Another win for Sante La Brea! Stop in for a bite or just a big bite of dessert- you will never look at a vegan cake the same. 🙂

Peace, Love, and a lot of Vegan Cake,

Urth Caffe: Santa Monica:)

Urth Caffe

So I’ve heard chat about Urth Caffe from a few different people as well as some TMZ reporting ( apparently Jessica Alba is a frequent visitor). ha. I was just exploring around Santa Monica today when I came across one of their locations( they have 4 in the LA area). I had already eaten but I noticed that they had vegan desserts!! You know I can’t pass up vegan dessert;). But before we get to that let me say the

Blackberry Ice Tea

ambience of this place is warm and inviting, the type of place you’d meet friends for a “brunch” type setting. Huge menu, not vegan but has a lot of vegetable dishes and many vegan options, some great hot coffee drinks, teas and the best some vegan desserts! I started with a “Blackberry Ice Tea” ($2.50) Fresh Brewed Ice Tea with Fresh Blackberry accent. This was a delicious tea.. Im a huge tea drinker so Im always looking for a unique blend and this was it. So refreshing! The vegan dessert that caught my eye today was the “ Vegan Chocolate Cake ($5.25) Layers of Vegan Chocolate Cake filled with a Creamy Chocolate Layer, topped with a Chocolate Shell. I have to say and Im sure you’ll agree, this doubled as a gorgeous piece of art as well as a

Chocolate Cake

decadent dessert. Just a lovely simple and eloquent dessert. Loved it! The feel here is simple and eloquent like I said, a cute little cafe to dine at with friends! Eat clean and Urthy;).

Venice Beach is one of the greatest places in LA in my opinion.  Crazy artsy people, tons of shops, the great boardwalk that runs to Santa Monica and to top it off a new favorite vegan place “Seed” just off the boardwalk. They have a great menu full of sandwiches, salads, some top rated burgers, grain bowls, and killer dessert! The atmosphere is earthy and totally beach, friendly staff as well!
