Candle Cafe.. you’ve outdone yourself..again:)

Breathtaking & delicious:)

SO it is no secret that Candle Cafe on the Upper East Side is one of my favorites! I’ve reviewed them numerous times before, which you can check out by clicking here. They are a lovely cafe offering up some scrumptious appetizers, hearty entrees, spectacular sandwiches, salads, soup, indian, mexican, healthy delicious vegan cooking basically! Today me and my dad went in, and I decided to go out on a ledge from my normal order of a sandwich or salad and get something indian. The special today was the “Indian Plate” ($15.00) Okra-Seitan Curry, Black Eyed Pa Masala, Yellow Basmati Rice, Date-Raisin Chutney, Cabbage Salad, & Parata Bread. This is some of the most amazing indian vegan I have eaten. In a strange way it reminded me of a gumbo ( maybe the okra and black eyed peas), but like gumbo gone indian. It was just delicious. HUGE portions, fresh veggies, soft seitan, and luscious chutney ( I could just eat a bowl of that stuff.mhmm) .. I am so happy I decided to step out on a ledge if you will and try something new! Thanks again Candle, you know I love and support you guys! Eat Clean and Green 🙂

Candle Cafe

Mezze Plate ($13.00)

Cajun Seitan Sandwich ($14.00)

Oh Candle.. everytime I visit you I fall more in love.. yum Today I got my old favorite the Tempeh and Roast Veggie Sandwich and my mom got the Grilled Seitan Burger ( but I’ve reviewed both) But we also split 2 items that I havent reviewed so here it is!.. So today headed to the Upper East Side with my parents ( who are visiting yay) and we went to one of my favorite places in the city.. One great thing about going to lunch with a small group (3) is appetizers! I normally don’t get one because then Im to full for my meal but not today..today we started off with the “Mezze Plate +Crudite'” ($13.00) Hummus, Quinoa Tabouli, Lemon Date Chutney, Marinated Olives, Panata Bread and Zataar. Oh my word- one of the most amazing appetizers to be eaten.. The Panata Bread was fluffy and light and the lemon date chutney was slightly sweet and tangy, with smooth hummus and fresh olives and carrot sticks and celery..oh my. They give you a huge portion and let me tell you that this plate was licked clean! You have got to order this if you go to Candle! Secondly was the “Cajun Seitan Sandwich” ($14.00) Pan- Seared Seitan, Steamed Greens, Caramelized Onions, and Avacado. Served on Toasted Focaccia with an Ancho Chili Aioli and Coleslaw. This was a huge sandwich – almost to big to wrap the mouth around, but I managed;) Fresh greens and sweet caramelized onions with the perfectly cooked seitan and a creamy aioli. Served with that amazing coleslaw. A perfectly scrumptious meal today at Candle.. yet another success.. who would have guessed at Candle;) Head to the UES and get your yummies today!!

Candle Cafe: Seitan Chimichurri.

Seitan Chimichurri ($8.00)

So I’ve reviewed Candle Cafe on the UES a few times before- mostly for selfish reasons since it is one of my favorite places to eat in NYC. Great service, great food, great area.. why wouldn’t I keep going back? Out of all of the times I’ve dined at Candle I’ve never tried the ever so popular Seitan Chimichurri ($8.00) – big pieces of seitan ( a wheat protein) marinated in a citrus herb sauce then grilled up to perfection. Let me tell you a delightful appetizer, the seitan is grilled to a perfect texture and the sauce was unbelievably delicious. They offer this seitan at Whole Foods NYC in the case to take home- I have tried this version of the dish but I have to say I think you get a completely different and better experience having it served fresh to your table at Candle. So go on to the upper east side and try this bite of heaven. You won’t be sorry!
Eat clean stay healthy:)

Smoked Tempeh & Grilled Veggie Sandwhich with Potatoe Salad.($14)

ah Candle Cafe is one of my favorites here in New York. Sister restaurant to Candle 79 just a few blocks away. They change there menu for the different seasons and recently added the Smoked Tempeh and Grilled Veggie Sandwhich ( $14) which was on my plate for today. This was absolutely incredible. Grilled tempeh, zucchini, roasted red pepper, arugula, and sundried tomato pesto on mixed grain bread served with basil aioli and potato salad ( woo all in one sentence!) A thick sandwhich with the freshest veggies to bite into with the creamy aioli to let it melt in your mouth. Amazing – If you ever go there order this- you wont be sorry! The potato salad was also yumo thick soft potatoes with some chopped veggies that made it crunchy. All in all a fantastic meal at Candle. You never let me down:)

Alrighty my last review for a nyc restaurant for a while – be in LA for a few weeks but back to Candle though. Me and my mom had lunch there today before heading over to the MoMa which was a lot of fun. Had a favorite the BBQ tempeh and sweet potato sandwich which I’ve already reviewed- scrumptious sandwich one of my favorite things at Candle. Fresh Wheat Bread, soft sweet potatos, thick tempeh, and healthy kale.YUM. We also split the Living Sprout Salad. This was really good and light. It had sprouts, crunchy beans, raisins and sesame seeds accompanied by a carrot ginger dressing. Had the perfect amount of crunch and creamy dressing. You must go to Candle. 🙂

So had lunch today at Candle Cafe on the UES. Love this place. super good food. Today I tried something new.. Giner Miso Stir Fry, I substituted the tofu for Seitan because I like it better. It’s a great light meal, Seitan, broccoli, spinach, peppers served over brown rice with a ginger miso sauce. Really yummy:) The downside of Candle is that it is a bit expensive – well worth the money to me but it depends on what you want to spend for a meal, the upside is that the portions are big and easily can be used for 2 meals. bon a petite 🙂

First I went to Candle Cafe on the upper east side for lunch one of my favorite vegan places. the people there are so nice:) I had the Tofu BLT with steamed broccoli- an amazing sandwich on whole grain toast. delicious! I also tried the Crystal Rolls which is rice paper wrapped with veggies, and grilled seitan and avacado along with an iced tea:) Those rolls were heaven. So glad they put them on the menu:)! Such a good place..

After Lunch I met Allegra to go to the Whitney Museum of Modern Art and the Met. Had so much fun. Allegra is always fun to hang out with and the museums were awesome. The met is huge. haha !:) Tomorrow just packing and getting everything ready to leave for Florida… then Busch Gardens on Saturday!:) Life is good.! Thats all for now. a few pictures:)

SO review of Candle Cafe two different times. { CandleCafe.com}

First of the Grilled Seitan Burger with vegan mayo, sprouts, onions, and lettuce with tempeh bacon served with vegan cole slaw of course:) Really good on a nice seeded bun. Great seitan meal. fresh and healhty tasting nice smooth burger. mhmm Candle has really great food a little more expensive than the other restaurants but worth it if your over in the Upper East Side..
Secondly the special which was the Grilled Seitan steak with onions, and broccoli with a vegan gravy. Healthy and light homestyle type meal- Maybe your version of meatloaf and mashed potatos.. but healthy! A great portion to go. delicious!

Candle Cafe.. a quick review..

SO didn’t get a chance to review my meal at Candle Cafe on the Upper East Side.. I got the special which was the Paella with a saffron rice carrots, lots of steamed greens and cajun seitan with a tomato sauce, accompanied by cauliflower, green beans, and zucchini.. It was really good:) light but filling. Sometimes I don’t get specials because I wonder why they aren’t always on the menu and not just occasionally but this was a good choice:) I love Candle great healthy restaurant:)
