I’ll start of by saying that Laguna Beach is gorgeous in it’s own right..I mean what could make the beautiful beach, the clean streets, and the fresh air even better? I will tell you… The Stand on Thalia St. This 100% Vegan joint is one of the most amazing eateries I’ve experienced in all of my culinary adventures. I’ll admit that I didn’t find this place on a whim, being the vegan blog junkie I am I searched for a great lunch place before my mom and I headed down. We could not have asked for a better lunch while in Laguna!  They have a crazy HUGE menu- I mean seriously it took us about 10 minutes to decided and I still wasn’t sure.. EVERYTHING sounds amazing! They have sandwiches, wraps, veggie bowls with different ingredients, tamales, burritos, salads, tons of soups, desserts, smoothies, fresh juices, and amazing fresh fruit soft serve! Overwhelmingly amazing! My mom and I decided to get a few different dishes to split/try.. ( LOVE having mom here to split things with woohoo!) So let’s begin! We started off with the “Bean Pate and Tortilla Chips”($2.25) Homemade Bean Pate mixed with a fresh Homemade Salsa, and seasoned to perfection.  I have got to be honest, being that it was basically just a small bean dish I wasn’t expecting to much…but this was SO GOOD, It tasted so fresh and yummy. You can tell the beans had been made in house! We then decided to get two cups of soup the “Tortilla Soup” ($2.50) Homemade Tortilla Soup. & “Cauliflower Soup” ($2.50) Homemade Cauliflower Soup. They were so sweet and gave us samples of both of these and we couldn’t get enough!! These were hot and thick and just amazing!! Some of the tastiest soup ever! MHM Great way to start the meal right there!! The next dish was the “Special Tamale and Guacamole Plate” ($8.50)  Vegetable Tamale covered with Tamale Sauce, with Beans, Guacamole, Mild Salsa, and Cabbage Salad with Sweet & Sour Dressing.. KILLER TAMALE PLATE, I normally don’t get tamales but this called to me and it was just decadent! It was all so flavorful and cooked so perfectly!! LOVED IT! The dressing on the cabbage salad was so tasty!! Since that plate had so many side items and was so big we also got the “Potato and Guacamole Burrito($6.95) Potato Mix, Guacamole, Beans, Romaine Lettuce, Chiles, and Salsa in a Whole Wheat Tortilla. Another home run dish! Succulent, flavorful, and just simply delicious! It was super unique to put potatoes in their, gave it an extra somethin’ somethin’ ;)! SO as you can tell our main lunch dishes were spectacular..NOW onto dessert! The Stand has this really healthy, interesting dessert type dish (if you can call it dessert) its a fresh fruit soft serve, and it really is just fruit smoothed into ‘soft serve’ they have a lot of different fruit flavors and toppings all vegan and no sugar, salt or ANYTHING ELSE! We got the “Banana, Strawberry (with Cocoa Powder topping $.50 Extra), and Pineapple” ($1.25 sm. & $2.50 med). I am in love with this stuff ! It was creamy and sweet just like soft serve except it was just fruit!! How can you go wrong??? Perfect for a day at the beach! We also took two cookies with us to try. The “Peanut Butter and The Oatmeal Raisin Cookies” ($3.00) Both of them were very good! Freshly baked, plump raisins in the oatmeal cookie and fresh chunky peanuts in the peanut butter. woah yum!  The Stand is a must if your in Laguna Beach...Total bliss!:) Eat Clean and healthy and at the beach;)

some of the most amazing food ever!

pure Heaven 🙂

I’ve blogged  about Native Foods a few times on VeganScraps because I adore their food! They have crazy good and unique salads, sandwiches, appetizers, soups, and desserts! The chef is always

🙂

adding different/new dishes to the menu and they never disappoint! Today we my momma and I went to Westwood for a meal at Native Foods and were blown away! We started off with the

fabulous kale!

Native Nachos“($7.95) Homemade Corn Tortilla Chips covered in Black Beans, Native Taco Meat, Native Chipotle Crema, Native Cheese, Salsa Fresca, and Guacamole. Topped with Corn, Green Onions, and Cilantro. Wooh! Did you get all that?? These were divine, I mean really some of the tastiest nachos you will ever eat, as my mom said “they are in a class of their own”. This dish is an absolute *must* have, and so inexpensive for all that you get! For my mom’s entree she chose the “Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger($9.95) Thinly Sliced Native Original Seitan, Melted Cheddar, Caramelized Onions, and Crispy Native Bacon on a Bun slathered with BBQ Sauce and Ranch Dressing, Romaine, Carrots, Onions, and Tomato. Topped with Crunchy Battered Dill Pickle Chips. Another home run on Native Foods part. This Sandwich is HUGE- so fresh and delicious, and those ‘fried pickles’ are amazzzing!! YUMMY! For my entree I decided on the “Spring Kale Salad with Seitan”($8.95) Raw Crunchy Kale, Shredded Cabbage, Apples & Avocado tossed with a Maple Orange Dressing. Topped with Currants, Almonds, and Creamy Tahini Drizzle. I’ve been on a kale kick for the past few days and this salad was one of the best! SO healthy and had so many different ingredients to make it just perfect! Native Foods is a gem in LA! A personal favorite of mine, so be sure to check it out.. Healthy and delicious!!

RFD:) Santa Monica:)

EL Coyote Fajitas!

Real Food Daily offers up some amazing healthy food dishes! They have different specials every month, a great list of salads, sandwiches, classic meals like a tv dinner, some fantastic mexican food, and tasty desserts! I’ve been there a few times before and the food is always great! I normally go to the one in West Hollywood but today my mom and I ventured to Santa Monicato try

Basic Two! Flavors were def. not basic!

that RFD out 🙂 I got one of my favorite menu items at RFD the caesar salad which has already been reviewed on the blog but we did have a couple of new items to blog about! My mom ordered the special this month the ” El Coyote Fajitas” ($15.95) Seasoned Seitan, Onions, Peppers, Pinto Beans, Green Rice, Guacamole, Pico De Gallo, Tofu Sour Cream, and Soft Corn

Parfait

Tortillas. I will start by saying that she wiped her plate clean, with a *little* help from me ;). These fajitas were some of the best I’ve had! Great portion of grilled seitan with fresh veggies to stack on the warm tortilla! The rice was exceptionally yummy to!! Nothing bad to say about this dish, you must try it!! We also got the “Basic Two (Salisbury Seitan & Pressed Salad) ($7.95)

YUM!

Fresh Squares of Salisbury Seitan & Shredded Cabbage with a Vinegar Dressing. Moist and “meaty” pieces of very flavorful seitan which were perfect, and a crunchy tasty pressed salad.. nothing better!! For dessert we decided to try something we hadn’t had before the “Parfait” ($3.95) Layers of Chocolate Mousse, a Whip Topping, and Chocolate Cake made into a lovely Parfait. This was moist, fluffy, and scrumptious simply put. RFD has some really great desserts!! I am a big fan of RFD, some may argue the prices are a bit steep on some things and thats probably true but one bite and suddenly you forget the price on the menu;) Eat Clean and yummy!

Breakfast when you want it:) !

BBQ Salad

Hugo’s is one of the best places to grab a bite to eat here in Hollywood! If its breakfast you want, you can have it all day long- and it is the best breakfast in LA! They also have a HUGE lunch menu with fantastic healthy, fresh choices. They have everything from homemade pasta, veggie meatballs, salads, mexican dishes, a million different teas, and like I said lots of breakfast! They also have different specials for each month, and they are always amazing! I’ve reviewed them a couple of times which you can check out here. Today my mom and I went in mid morning and I opted for one of their salad specials and she went with a tasty breakfast item! I ordered the “BBQ Salad with

MHM!

Grilled Tofu ($14.00) Chopped Romaine Lettuce tossed with Grilled Mixed Marinated Vegetables ( red & green peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, potatoes, corn, and mushrooms), Black Beans, Diced Avocado in a Tangy BBQ Dressing. Topped with Crispy Tortilla Strips & Pico De Gallo. This salad was full of delicious ingredients and flavor, as you can tell. It was so fresh and healthy tasting!! Hugo’s always has the best tasting vegetables in all of their dishes! MHM! My mom was in a breakfast mood and decided to order the ” Roasted Pineapple-Coconut Pancakes”(Gluten Free) (10.65) Pancakes infused with Roasted Sweet Pineapple, Toasted Coconut and Ground Almonds. Topped with Sliced Bananas, Toasted Slivered Almonds and Coconut. Served with a Coconut Agave Syrup. OH MY WORD- out of this world delicious! As if the name isn’t enough to make these pancakes delish the flavors were simple to much for words. All of that on a fork just melts in your mouth. Light and Fluffy full of pineapple and coconut.. I really cannot say enough good things about these. My mom was in high pancake heaven! The Syrup served with it was absolutely mouth watering. Im pretty sure I could have just poured myself a cup of that for a drink;). Hugo’s NEVER disappoints, so whether your in the mood for breakfast or lunch stop in for one of the best meals you’ll ever eat!!

The return of Ada’s…

Ada's returns...

Ada’s Natural Store use to be the only real health food store/cafe to get some healthy and organic in the Ft. Myers area. I was a frequent (most everyday) for lunch seeing as the cafe use to be run by Chef Brooke who has now branched out and opened her own very successful Chef Brooke’s Natural Cafe not to far away from Ada’s. The “old” Ada’s ended up closing down ( due to the economy) for over a year, and has

"hot bar"

now made a return(with new owners)! I had to stop in to check out the new Ada’s seeing as I was such a faithful customer in the past. The store hadn’t changed to much as far as the grocery section was concerned. To be honest it really wasn’t that impressive though, the prices were not anything to get excited about, and the store wasn’t overflowing with products.. I really was interested to eat lunch at the new

the no name soup..

“Ada’s Natural & Organic Garden Cafe’.. I mean, can they really make it work without Chef Brooke? I had my doubts, and they seem to prove true unfortunately. On the website they mention that they offer a variety of organic, natural, vegan, and gluten free foods. They also mention that they have a hot bar & salad bar like the Ada’s back in the day as well as some pre made wraps available for purchase

our mix for the day..

and the smoothie bar which looked kind of good… My mom and I arrived and noticed that the hot bar had been cut down in size from when Brooke was chef there. They only had a tofu dish, a rice dish, and a soup for us vegans, oh and the salad bar ( not a lot going on). I was really craving a vegan baked good that day but I didn’t see anything vegan in the case ( even more annoying, I called the day before and was told they

inside...

had a ton of vegan goodies..what??). I asked the girl at the counter if they had any vegan baked goods, and she looked bewildered and then told me that they had “chocolate mousse” .. I don’t think you bake a chocolate mousse? Needless to say they had NO vegan goodies for me, despite the fact that the menu says “Vegan Carrot Cake Cupcake”. If it is on the menu, then it should be available daily..or it shouldn’t be on the menu. The cupcake also cost $4, that is a little steep for what they offer up if you ask me. We got a cup of the small soup it didn’t have a tag for what it was but I believe it was some kind of a “Veggie Barley Soup” ($4.99) Barley with a Tomato base and Veggies. The soup was pretty good, slightly bland but it was hot and had a lot of veggies. We then decided to try the dishes at the hot bar (only 2) “Hot Bar Mix” ($7.99/pound) A Tofu Stir Fry, Mixed Veggies, Salad, and a Rice Dish ( once again no tag, so I have no idea what was in it, just that it was vegan).  Overall the food was ok, nothing to exciting, like the soup most of it was pretty bland. The rice dish had the most flavor and tasted pretty good. I can’t say that I’ll eat at Ada’s again, they don’t have any vegan baked goods ( I went by another day in the week to check and nothing still), and limited vegan hot bar items that aren’t anything to special.. I really wanted Ada’s to be as amazing as before, but I guess the cafe just isn’t the same spectacular place it was with Chef Brooke in the house!

Vegan Ice Cream in Fort Myers??

Cool Hand Luc's

So I was pretty stoked when I found a new place in Fort Myers Cool Hand Luc’s that offered up vegan ice cream, sandwiches, salads, soups, and coffees. I wasn’t looking for a new vegan place to eat because when Im in the Fort I eat at Chef Brooke’s Natural Cafe everyday ( because there is no food around

Hummus..

to compare), but she was out of town so I decided to check this new place out for a review! My mom and I arrived right at noon when they opened only to find 1 counter person working. This method may work if we were the only customers except that it was his first day ( alone) and he had no idea where or what anything was..First we’ll

Corn "soup"

discuss food then I will mention the other qualms I had with this place through out  unfortunately. We started off with the “Hummus with Crunchy Pita Chips” ($4.00) Fresh Hummus served with Homemade Pita Chips.UM, except that the new server couldn’t find the pita chips after searching for a while so we had to

Tempeh Pita

settle for torn pita bread (packaged) and veggies. We also wanted to try a cup of the soup of the day  “Corn Chowder” ($ 3.00) Corn Soup. I have to be honest, this tasted like a canned cream of corn you would buy at your local grocery store, on top of that he warmed it in the microwave and it came out cold, to which he said ” if its still cold I

"tempeh" pita

can stick it back in the microwave..” HM not so reassuring. So after our appetizer arrived and we ate it another customer came in and ordered food leaving us waiting for ours quite a while. I understand if your new but we arrived first and you should kindly tell the next customer that your shorthanded and will be right with them.

Ice Cream

He didn’t do that he made there food and shake before even beginning ours. This is now about an hour into our meal waiting…He finally got to ours the “Tempeh Ranch Pita($6.00) Whole Wheat Pita filled with Ranch, Tempeh, Lettuce, and Onion.  While he was warming our tempeh in the microwave he discovered that they only

Vanilla Bean

had enough tempeh for one (what we got was not even enough for one) so we had to choose who got to eat that day. It was basically just a packaged piece of Pita bread with about 2 slices of tempeh and a slab of lettuce. At the end of our meal we were needless to say unsatisfied and felt as if we had only eaten pita bread and corn for our 2 hour

Chocolate Chip Cookie

lunch.. Even after a disaster lunch we still wanted to try the dessert ( seeing as we were still starved) So We tried a mix of Ice Creams ” Oreo Mint, Peanut Butter, and Vanilla Bean($3.25) Fresh Vegan Homemade Ice Cream filled with the different listed ingredients. This stuff was incredible! Fresh and creamy- YUM! We also decided to get a “Chocolate Chip Cookie” ($1.50) Homemade Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie. This was one of the best cookies I’ve eaten. It was warm and gooey, just perfect. YUM! I think that the ice cream and the cookies were the only thing at Cool Hand Luc’s that was homemade and not microwaved or packaged.  I really wanted to LOVE this place and I will say the desserts were yummy BUT the food was simple, cheap, and cold and the customer service or lack of was simply unacceptable. The only thing I would go for would be the ice cream. Maybe Cool Hand Luc’s should add another hand to help out with the custom service next time..

Snoballs Etc. ; Snowballs= a *must* in New Orleans!

Ice Heaven 🙂

Snowballs are a cheap, simple idea that rock my world. It is just shaved ice with a syrup of your choice. In my case I go for the sugar free. They have a ton of flavors strawberry ( my personal favorite) , sour apple, wedding cake, ice cream, cherry, you name it they make it! They also have some fabulous sugar free flavors like; pina colada, pineapple, cajun prailine, coconut, cherry, strawberry, and so much more! I always get the “20 ounce Strawberry & Cajun Prailine Mix($2.00) Freshly shaved ice with Sugar Free Strawberry Syrup & Cajun Prailine. NEVER have a tasted such a yummy snowball! I love these, I totally stopped in twice a day for one:):) My parents and I both agree that strawberry is the winner here, BUT the Cajun Prailine paired with it is pure snowball heaven!! You have to get one if you make it down to New Orleans!

Vegan Frappuccinos? HECK YES!

Delish!

SO for the longest time I have been craving a vegan type frapp.. I always assumed that Starbucks wouldn’t be able to make me a vegan one, but today I was proven wrong! Starbucks offers hot and cold drinks with soy milk substitute available for us vegans, and now they have vegan frappuccino syrups! wahoo!! Today I went to the Starbucks at The Grove here in Hollywood (the one inside of Barnes and Noble) and they were super helpful and made a delicious drink! I decided to order a “Venti Sugar Free Cinnamon Dulce Frappuccino” ($4.45) Soy Milk blended with fresh Shots of Expresso and Sugar Free Cinnamon Dulce Syrup. YUMMY! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this drink!! It was perfectly blended and tasty with a lovely hit of expresso in there.! Just what I needed! SO excited that I can get my Vegan Frapp Fix!! Thanks Starbucks! Drink Clean!

Killer Cinnamon Roll!

The Whole Foods market located on Magazine Street in New Orleans is a delight for the city in my opinion! It’s a great big store sitting right in the heart of historic New Orleans! Great location to stop in if you’ve been shopping on the fabulous Magazine Street! They offer up a huge store with fresh produce, dried fruits, body supplies, pizza, a hot and cold bar, coffee bar, and a crazy good vegan pastry case! My mom and I stopped in for a tasty little ‘dessert’ and our socks were knocked off! We decided to split

Muffins!

the “Cinnamon Roll” ($1.99) Freshly baked Cinnamon Roll with Creamy Icing. Oh Lord, this thing was just a melt in the mouth addictive little treat. My mom is the one who decided to get it and it was the best decision! I loved this thing! MHM I also got a couple of muffins to have for breakfast the next couple of days. First up the classic “Blueberry Muffin ($1.99) Fresh Wheat Batter filled with Blueberry Muffins.I love Blueberries and this muffin was full of them! It was simple, healthy and light. Smitten with this muffin:) I also got the

gooey greatness!

Apricot Bran Muffin ($1.99) Bran Batter filled with Fresh Apricots. This muffin was just ok ( I mean coming up against that cinnamon roll and muffin its hard to beat). It was a little dry for my taste, but then again Im not a huge fan of apricot muffins. It was ok though!! Over all a great trip to Whole Foods on Magazine. Check it out if your ever shopping on Magazine, you won’t be sorry! Eat Sweet:)
