Peacefood Cafe:

"Chili and Cornbread" ($7.50)

I always find myself wandering into Peacefood Cafe on the UWS on rainy days, and today was no exception… Headed in to relax and have a cup of tea, and decided to try something new today. ” Chili and Cornbread” ($7.50) Mixed Veggies and Soy in a Tomato based stew. The Chili was really yummy, although nothing like a normal bowl of chili.. Its more like a Vegetable stew so don’t go in expecting a thick bean like chili.. The cornbread was fantastic! Light and fluffy.. a lovely topper to the chili! Another great meal at Peacefood.. Eat Clean and healthy:)

‘Snice:

"Pumpkin Pecan Muffin"

"Banana Chocolate Chip and Apple Bran Muffin"

"Philly Style Seitan"

On a gloomy, rainy day in NYC there is no better place to enjoy a nice early lunch then at ‘Snice. A great place to grab a muffin and hot tea or a great sandwich or salad on a cold day. That is exactly what I did.. I arrived a bit early to relax a little do some homework and read so I decided to try some of there muffins ( before you get worried I only ate one but tasted each to review for you.. the leftovers are for later :):)}. I got the “ Pumpkin Pecan Muffin” ($2.50) Fresh Pumpkin mixed with a healthy heart batter with Pecans and Raisins.” I adore this muffin, brings fall right into action. Smooth pumpkin with crunchy pecans and moist raisins. spectacular. mhmm. I also tried the “Banana Chocolate Chop Muffin” ($2.50) Fresh Bananas mixed with gooey Chocolate Chips. I love any muffin with banana in it ( which is funny because I don’t really like bananas alone) , it makes the batter so delicious! This muffin was no exception I love this muffin! Last but certainly not least the ” Apple Raisin Spice Muffin” ($2.50) Fresh chunks of Apple with Cinnamon and fresh Raisins.” Another muffin reminding me once again that summer is gone and fall is coming along.. This tasted phenomenal and I can’t wait to finish it off! Some of the best muffins I’ve had.. really enjoyed.. For lunch today I ordered the ” Philly Style Seitan Sandwich ($8.75) Seitan with Soy Cheese Peppers and Onions served with a side Salad. This was a great sandwich! I got mine served on whole wheat bread and added some lettuce which made it even better. The soy cheese makes it moist and I love the grill flavor of the peppers and onions. Such a great sandwich..almost like being in ol’ Philly;) Another ‘Snice experience in the West Village! P.S. this place is cash only so don’t forget to leave the plastic at home and use the green:) Eat Clean!:)

Peacefood Cafe:

Chocolate Banana Bread ($3.50)

"Asian Green" ($9.95)

"Asian Green" ($9.95)

One of my most adored places to eat at has to be Peacefood Cafe on the Upper West Side. It’s a nice cafe to come in for a hot drink and dessert to read a book and also a great place for a great healthy meal. Totally vegan and healthfully made Peacefood offers a twist on your ordinary Vegan food. Scones, muffins, cookies, sandwiches, salads, soups, paninis, pizza, and so much more! I’ve been so many times but got a little something different today. I started off with “Banana Chocolate Chip Bread” ($3.50) A Huge slab of freshly made bread oozing with bananas and choclate chips. I am in love with this bread. The consistency was *perfect* and you could just taste the fresh banana inside. I will definitely be getting this again! Then I ordered the “Asian Green Salad” ($9.95) Seasoned Baby Asian Vegetables, Mixed Sprouts, Shredded Carrots, Tomatoes, Marinated and Baked Tempeh, Ground Peanuts, in a Garlic, Ginger, Cilantro, Ponsu Sesame Dressing. This is my new favorite salad in all of NYC and possibly anywhere else.. So good in fact Im considering going back tomorrow for the same thing! Full of healthy veggies and crunchy jicama with soft tempeh strips marinated to perfection! The Ponsu sauce was addictive! Sweet and savory.. I can’t say enough good things about this salad.. you have to make the trip just to taste this delicious garden of food! The staff at Peacefood always makes dining here even better. The owner Eric has always got a smile on his face and greeting everyone while working hard. My server Daniel today was very attentive and kind- which makes me want to go back even more.. so maybe I’ll see you again tomorrow peacefood. Eat Clean and Healthy!

Village Natural

Waffle ($7.50)

Apple/Blueberry Fruit: ($2.95)

Soy Patties ($2.95)

Today I decided to go to the West Village for some good vegan brunch.. So I hit Village Natural- a cozey restaurant offering sandwiches, salads, asian, italian, pitas, and a great brunch! They have a little bit of everything here. Most things are vegan but they do serve eggs for brunch ( if you have a friend who isn’t vegan) and also some seafood. I was torn today deciding if I should get a sandwich that sounded great or go ahead and do brunch.. I decided on brunch…. I decided to get the ” Buckwheat Waffles (2)” ($7.50) crisp, thin hearty, grainy waffles served with organic vermont Maple Syrup. Im not really to big on sweet tasting things as a main course generally but these were calling my name..seeing as buckwheat is so healthy for you! Im glad I ordered these absolutely scrumptious! As a topper for my waffles I ordered “Apple/Blueberry Fruit Sauce($2.95) a mix of fresh Apples and Plump Blueberries cooked in natural sweetness” I love apples and blueberries and these were fantastic. Pouring this luscious fruit over the waffles was a piece of Heaven. I also got a side of the “Soy Patties” ($2.95) Simple put a little protein over some shredded cabbage and carrots. These were cooked to perfection crisp on the outside with a nice bite of soy. yummy! I really enjoyed Village Natural.. It’s a great place in the West Village with a lot of different options and varieties of healthy food to eat! So check it out:) Eat Clean and Healthy!

Boneshakers:

Boneshakers

Tea/Scone

"The Magnus" ($9.25)

Cole Slaw ($3.00)

So today I made the trek over to Brooklyn ( which I don’t go to often) to try a vegan cafe called “Boneshakers”.  Boneshakers is located in Greenpoint in a kind of industrial area.. I was surprised at it’s location because there really isn’t to much going on around it. Its the type of place you would have to know about or I doubt you would just come across it.. But me being the vegan restaurant enthusiast that I am googled and found it:) Boneshakers offers breakfast items such as the “sag sandwich” ( faux egg and sausage on a kaiser roll/bagel or croissant) as well as granola and simple soy yogurt.. I stopped in for lunch because they have some very interesting sandwiches, desserts, and salads, along with some delicious ice teas. Today I started off with a “Raspberry Ice Tea” ($3.00) A refreshing tea with a fruity raspberry flavor. delightful. I also decided to try one of the baked goods ( they only had scones and breakfast pastries because I arrived a bit early) “The Chocolate Scone” ($2.75) Vegan batter with Vegan Chocolate Chips. I wasn’t overly impressed with the scone ( I left most of it) I like my scones a certain consistency and this just didn’t feel like your normal vegan scone.. But it was ok.. ( I hear the cookies are the best). Then I ordered one of there many sandwiches “The Magnus($9.25) Homemade Veggie Patty, Tempeh Bacon, Chipotle Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Sprouts, on a Toasted Rosemary Foccacia ( which I requested Whole grain toast for, they were very flexible in my order).  A delicious sandwich! I loved the homemade patty. It tasted so fresh and had a wonderful smooth consistency! Loaded with veggies and sprouts ( love sprouts) with a slightly spice mayo. I really enjoyed this sandwich! Freshly made and brought to the table. YUM! I also ordered a side of “Cole Slaw” ($3.00) Red and Green Cabbage with shredded Carrots in a Vegan Mayo Slaw Sauce.” Let me start of by saying that they give you a HUGE bowl! Generally I expect a “side” to be a small portion but I couldn’t finish this bowl! Great big pieces of cabbage! I absolutely love cabbage so this was fantastic! . . As a whole I can’t really say that I will return to Boneshakers..I might have to, just to try the other interestingly named sandwiches.. My only qualm about this place is the location, a bit in the middle of no where. It reminded me of a louder more messy ‘Snice…. So im a little mixed about going back… But if you want to try some interesting good vegan food then head on down to Brooklyn Town:) Eat Clean!

Teany

Teany Bagel ($6.00)

"Side Salad" ($3.00)

So one of the cutest little restaurants in NYC has to be Teany. A quaint little tea and scone type place ( except there always out of scones.) on the LES. They have delightful little vegan sandwiches, salads, yummy desserts, and 98 varieties of tea of course! Today I got the “Japanese Cherry Tea” ($4.00) A nice light green flavored tea with a nice hit of cherry. Really amazing tea! They give you your own little pot so you get a few cups out of it, which is great:) Today I got there a bit early so I decided to go with the ‘Teany bagel” ($6.00) Vegan Tempeh bacon, melted cheese, and grilled tomato on a whole wheat bagel with a side of vegan cream cheese and jam.” A spectacular bagel. Crunchy wheat bagel with gooey vegan cheese and sweet tempeh bacon. The vegan cream cheese was also amazing! Nice and creamy with a little berry jam. yum! I also added a “Side Salad” ($3.00)  Fresh mixed greens, chickpeas, sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers, and hearts of palm with a balsamic vinegar dressing. This is anything but a side salad! I expected a small little nothing salad for $3 but this thing was like no other “side salad” i have ever ordered. Fresh and light and tasty! Another fantastic lunch at Teany. Once again my only complaint is that I arrived 30 minutes after they opened and they were already out of scones and there was no one eating in the restaurant..what?! Anywho maybe i’ll catch a day when they have scones. ha! Eat Clean:)

Today in NY the weather was gorgeous! This morning was a little crisp with a small chill in the air so I decided to stop into one of my favorite cafes in the city Peacefood to have a nice fresh vegan muffin and a hot tea. I had never had a muffin at peacefood before but I decided to try the “Raspberry Chocolate Chip Muffin($2.95) Spelt Flour with fresh Raspberries and mini gooey vegan Chocolate Chips”. This was a great muffin! Crisp on the tip and soft in the center..freshly baked.. the perfect morning snack!  This served with a big cup of there hot apple spiced tea made the morning relaxing and delicious. If you ever stop into Peacefood be sure and check out there case of desserts and baked goods there all fantastic!!

Eataly:NYC

Pasta

Pizza

Italian Desserts

"Expresso" ($3.00)

On August 31, 2010 Mario Batali, Lidia Bastianich  and partners opened up “Eataly” a 50,000 square foot italian food funhouse which has essentially everything Italian you can possibly imagine! From the moment I walked in I felt as though I had stepped back into Italy for the duration! It was fantastic! Eataly offers “LA PIAZZA” a stand up food and drink bar. “IL PESCE” a seated counter and table area with different specials each day. “LE VERDURE” a seated counter and table area that serves italian style vegetable dishes such as soups, bruschetta, and warm and cold dishes. LA PIZZA & LA PASTA” which serves everything from fresh pasta, lasagna, ravioli, and of course pizza! and “MANZO” a more formal dining experience serving up Italian favorites. Eataly also has a huge grocery section with some organic fruit ( some of the brightest colored apples ever to be seen!) pastas from Italy, a huge selection of organic freshly made breads (vegan options). “GELATERIA” Gelato bar ( but of course, if you’ve ever been to Italy you know that there is more gelato than people!) “PASTICCERIA” Fresh made pastries and desserts”. CAFFE LAVAZZA” Coffee and Expresso Bar... whew SO MUCH STUFF IN THAT STORE! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!  You may be wondering why Im reviewing because no it is not strictly vegan, but they have vegan options, lots of fruits and vegetables and bread- which are worth going in for! Also the coffee bar.. which is where I stopped in and got a “Expresso Dopio”($3.00)Double Expresso in other words. Fantastic, Strong and delicious just like in Italy.. You absolutely MUST MUST MUST go to Eataly if your in the city!! Right on 5th Avenue in the Flatiron District! Ciao!

Terri

"Bacon Cheddar Chicken Ranch" ($7.81)

"Roasted Sweet Potatoes" ($3.21)

"Mocha Fudge Brownie" ($3.00)

I made it back to Terri over in Chelsea after eating that delicious oat date bar the other day on the go just as promised. Today I actually went in for a quick lunch and so glad I did! As I mentioned in my prior Terri Post this is a great place for grabbing lunch on the go or just a place to grab a seat at the bar. Not a sit down with friends and chat type of place, but that doesn’t make the food any less delicious! The servers at Terri are extremely nice and helpful with any help you need. Which makes the meal even more enjoyable:) Terri offers numerous creative sandwiches (Thanksgiving sandwich with cranberry sauce along with the soy, chickpea tuna melt etc..) They also have prepared salads in a cold case, and amazing lemon ginseng ice tea, also some of there side salads. They cook to order and they do it fast which fits perfectly in the hustle and bustle of NYC. Today I had my eye on the ” Bacon Cheddar Chicken Ranch Sandwich” ($7.81) “Chicken”, Soy Bacon, Daiya Cheddar Cheese, Ranch Sauce, and lettuce. Served on a homemade Rosemary Foccacia Bread” This was such a great sandwich – one of my favorites. Perfect portion with thin crispy bread and a succulent juice ranch sauce with flavorful soy bacon and gooey cheese. Absolute perfection, I could not have asked for me. They offer a few different side dishes Potato Salad, 3 Bean Salad, Quinoa Salad, Sweet Potato Fries, and Roasted Sweet Potatoes which cost $3.21 unless ordered with a sandwich or wrap then its only $2.30. I had to have the “Roast Sweet Potatoes” ($2.30) Thick round slices of soft peppered Sweet Potatoes” and some of the most amazing sweet potatoes I’ve ever eaten. They give you a great size container and they have a roasted cracked pepper flavor. delicious! For dessert today I ordered the “Mocha Fudge Brownie” ($3.00) A thick flavorful Brownie filled with Mocha Flavor and scrumptious chocolate. I loved this brownie, it’s very thick so I had half of it and took the rest for later. I really enjoyed this brownie with a nice glass of tea. If you like brownies and mocha this is the dessert for you:) I will have to go back to Terri to try the rest of there many menu items as they all sound delightful! So if you need a quick healthy lunch in the city  head to Terri! Eat Clean kids:)

Candle 79

Candle 79

Strawberry Muffins ( Brunch Free)

"Angels Nachos" ($16)

"Seitan Sandwich" ($15)

"Market Plate" ($18)

Candle 79 is a sister restaurant to Candle Cafe – owned by the same people, and only a few blocks away. The difference is that Candle 79 is a bit more fancy, upscale if you will. Candle Cafe is a more cafe type, relaxed setting. Both amazing restaurants! I had never been to Candle 79, but boy am I glad that me and the parents headed there today! Let me start off by saying that we had a very attentive waitor and he was very kind. Although the ambience in this place was a little more strict and not as many smiling faces.. so take that for what you will. On the up side they do give you free refills on your ice tea.. which they don’t over at Candle Cafe.. So for the food. For brunch they give each person at the table a “Mini Strawberry Muffin (Free) amazing fresh strawberries in a crisp dough batter. I absolutely loved this tiny muffin it reminded me of being little and having those morning muffins mom use to make. yum! We decided next to order “Angel Nachos” ($16.00) corn chips, cheddar and mozzarella (vegan of course), tomatoes, refried pinto beans, chili-grilled seitan, guacamole, salsa, tofu sour cream, and romaine lettuce. I don’t even know where to begin these were the best nachos I’ve ever eaten. The seitan was perfectly cooked with a great grill chili flavor and the veggies and beans gave it that crisp taste then the tofu sour cream and guac just brought it home. delicious! Then we did a little split for our main meal.. first up was the “Garlie Herb Grilled Seitan Sandwich”($15.00) grilled summer vegetables, polenta fries, chipotle aioli, and mixed lettuces. This sandwich was spectacular! Its a huge sandwich so perfect for sharing. full of fresh summer veggies and a thick cut of seitan with a creamy aioli and some avocado on there for perfection! As if the sandwich wasn’t good enough the Polenta Fries that accompanied it were to die for! Crunchy thick slabs with a bit of a soft center of polenta.. purely amazing. mhm. We also split the “Farmers Market Plate($18.00) Chili Grilled Tempeh, sauteed Broccoli and Cauliflower, and string beans with almonds and garlic. With a Creamy Horseradish Sauce and Ginger Miso. The Farmers Plate offers many different choices ( you pick 4 sides and 2 sauces) These are just the choices we picked. Everything on that plate was scarfed down! The vegetable were fresh and crisp as if they’d just been pulled out of the garden! The Tempeh was seasoned perfectly and cooked with a little grill left on. The sauces were also some of the best I’ve ever had ( im a pick sauce person) they were slurped down to the last drop! I have to say that while Candle 79 may not be as “friendly” of an environment as Candle Cafe, the food is most assuredly worth dining in for. You should be sure to head over on Saturday or Sunday for brunch to try those delicious little muffins! They make the experience that much better! Eat Clean and Healthy.
